The Sheriff’s Office Emergency Response Team had to break down the doors of a local residence Thursday afternoon to arrest a wanted man who refused to open the door, Chief Investigator Capt. Chip Nix said.

Herman Haire Jr., 48, of 218 Ronnie Lambert Road, was arrested at his home late Thursday afternoon and charged with possession of firearms by a convicted felon.

According to Nix, sheriff’s deputies had received reports that Haire was “at times, highly intoxicated and firing guns outside his residence at odd hours.”

In addition, Haire had been allegedly threatening other people and had been having family problems, Nix said. Further investigation revealed that Haire was a convicted felon, whom are prohibited by state law from owning knives or guns.

“We tried to get him to come out of the house so that we could take him into custody, but he would not,” Nix said. “A couple of hours later, we obtained a ‘no-knock’ search warrant for [Haire’s] home, went inside and negotiated with him to surrender peacefully.”

Upstairs at Haire’s residence, deputies found him in a bedroom, where they also found several weapons, including a .44 Magnum revolver, a .32 revolver and an SKS assault rifle, Nix said.

Haire lived by himself off Ronnie Lambert Road, which is about 4 miles northeast of Bainbridge, in a neighborhood off Old Whigham Road.

 

2 arrested, charged with attempt to make meth

The Sheriff’s Office recently arrested two people and charged them with criminal attempt to manufacture methamphetamines.

Jessica Marie Chaney, 26, of 155 Seventh St. in Bainbridge, and Jerry Allen Faircloth, 23, of the same address, were arrested the morning of Friday, Oct. 5.

Sheriff’s investigators received information that Chaney and Faircloth were allegedly planning to make meth at their home, said Nix.

Nix and other deputies went to 155 Seventh St., and received consent to search the property.

“We found most of the ingredients for making meth on the property, both inside and outside the house,” Nix said.

 

Friday afternoon accident

Bainbridge Public Safety responded to a two-vehicle accident on Wheat Avenue, near the Department of Family and Children’s Services office, at approximately 1:30 p.m. Friday.

According to E-911 dispatches, a male occupant of one of the vehicles was reportedly not breathing and CPR had to be done. EMS personnel also responded to the scene.

Neither the man’s medical condition nor the circumstances of the accident were immediately known.

At Public Safety’s request, Senior Trooper Charles Hall of the Georgia State Patrol’s Colquitt, Ga., post is investigating the accident.
