A 64-year-old Bainbridge woman died after a fire in her apartment on Monday night, according to Bainbridge Public Safety officials.
The fire was dispatched to BPS officers at 8:21 p.m. Monday night at Selman Place Apartments off Gordon Avenue, BPS Fire Prevention Major Doyle Welch said.
Officers responding to the fire at Apartment A-10 at Selman Place discovered Rita D. White, 64, deceased inside the apartment, Major Welch said.
When officers entered the smoky first-floor apartment, the fire was already out and the apartment’s overhead sprinkler had activated, he said.
Emergency Medical Service personnel also responded, but found no signs of life.
As of Tuesday, the cause of the fire was still under investigation, but officers believe White’s death was accidental, Welch said.
