A Decatur County family lost their home to fire early on Friday morning, according to officials at Decatur County Fire and Rescue and and the Sheriff’s Office.
The fire happened at approximately 2 a.m. at 3057 East River Road, about 4.5 miles northeast of Bainbridge city limits, according to Fire and Rescue records. Approximately six fire trucks, including Fire and Rescue and volunteer firefighters, responded to the blaze.
The firefighters spent approximately three hours at the scene putting out the fire.
Captain Nick Godwin of the Sheriff’s Office, who was at the scene, said the fire completely destroyed the home.
“The house had been used for storage for a while until recently, when some family members were trying to make it livable,” Godwin said. “From what I understand, it’s possible that some faulty electrical wiring caused the fire.
The home’s residents were able to get out of the house safely and no one was injured, Godwin said.
Dena Chandler, one of the home’s residents, contacted The Post-Searchlight Friday afternoon about the fire. Chandler said all of her belongings were lost in the fire, and in addition, she was trying to find a place to stay.
