Guard Alex Carter poured in 27 points Tuesday night, leading coach Kelvin Cochran’s Bainbridge High School Lady Cats basketball team to a 56-51 victory over the visiting Miller County High School Lady Pirates.

It was the Lady Cats’ third victory in their last four games, and improved their overall record to 4-8.

Freshman guard Alexis Russ joined Carter in the double-figure column, with 10 points. Mallory Diamond of Miller County took game-scoring honors, with 41 points.

Tuesday’s game was close throughout. Carter gave the Lady Cats their first lead at 15-13, when she hit a three-point jumper from the top of the key with 51 seconds left in the first quarter.

A driving layup off the right glass by guard Teena Jeffery with 23 seconds left increased the lead to 17-13, and that is the way the first quarter ended.

The Lady Cats were up 25-22 at halftime and trailed 40-38 at the end of the third quarter.

Bainbridge met the Lee County High School Lady Trojans in a 1-AAAAA game Friday in Leesburg, Ga., and will host Columbus’s Hardaway High School Lady Golden Hawks in a Region 1-AAAAA game at 6 p.m. tonight.

“I am so proud of our team’s efforts in the last four games,” Cochran said, following Tuesday night’s win over Miller County. “We are playing hard and making better decisions.”
