An Arlington, Ga., man, who is the suspect in a rape case under investigation by Bainbridge Public Safety, was arrested Thursday afternoon after a brief foot chase.

James Christian Jones, 35, of Arlington, Ga., was being sought by BPS in conjunction with an incident that occurred in Bainbridge in late 2012, according to Major Robert Humphrey, chief investigator at BPS.

BPS officers had received information that Jones had occassionally returned to Bainbridge since then and also had separate warrants out for his arrest in Early County, so officers were on the lookout for him, Humphrey said.

At approximately 7:30 a.m. Thursday, BPS Officer Greg Brown had responded to a report of a domestic argument at an apartment on Alice Street, according to Humphrey. As he arrived, Officer Brown spotted Jones hurriedly leaving the area around the apartments. Brown and other officers gave chase and took Jones into custody a short time later.

Jones is charged by BPS with rape, false imprisonment, kidnapping and two counts of obstruction of an officer.
