Ms. Rachel Johnson, 40, of Smyrna, Ga., formerly of Donalsonville, Ga., passed away Tuesday afternoon, April 2, 2013, at Emory Adventist Hospital in Smyrna, Ga.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, April 5, 2013, at 4 p.m., at Friendship Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. James Scarborough officiating and David Broom giving the eulogy. The family will receive friends at the Mims Barn, 7019 River Road in Donalsonville, on Thursday evening, April 4, 2013, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Ms. Johnson was born Sept. 23, 1972, to Danny and Elaine Houston Johnson. She graduated from Seminole County High School in 1991 and from the University of Georgia in 1996. She was a member of New Salem Freewill Baptist Church and was presently employed as a bone marrow transplant search coordinator with Winship Cancer Institute.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Billy and Dorothy Houston, and her paternal grandparents, Milton and Esmerelda Johnson.

Ms. Johnson leaves to cherish her memory, her parents, Danny and Elaine Johnson of Donalsonville; a sister, Stephanie Mims and her husband Greg of Donalsonville; a brother, Truette Johnson and his wife Jill of Donalsonville; a nephew, Will Mims and three nieces, Katibeth Mims and Jillian and Addison Johnson all of Donalsonville. She is also survived by a special friend, David Broom of Blue Ridge, Ga.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association, 8384 Baymeadows Road, Suite 10, Jacksonville, FL 32256; The Bainbridge Decatur County Humane Society, 1350 Cox Ave., Bainbridge, GA 39817; or St. Jude’s Childrens Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
