The Bainbridge High School Lady Cats varsity soccer team travelled to Quitman, Ga., on Tuesday, and came up on the short end of a 2-1 loss to the Brooks County Lady Trojans.
The Lady Trojans scored the first goal of the game on a well-placed crossing shot from 17 yards out on the right side, in the 28th minute.
Bainbridge tied the score just 13 seconds later, as Lady Cat sophomore forward Longeshia Emanuel got underneath a lofted pass from teammate sophomore midfielder Jennifer Becerra, and sprinted past three Brooks County defenders before getting on a successful shot from 5 yards out.
In the second half, Brooks County scored the winning goal in the 49th minute.
“Obviously we were disappointed in the loss,” Bainbridge coach Chip Ariail said. “But I was more disappointed in the mistakes we made. Our hats are off to Brooks County in the win, as they never gave up despite our attack. We possessed the ball on their end of the field about 75 to 80 percent of the game.
“At times we lost focus and it was quite obvious our execution was off in finishing. We got off around 30 shots, but they either just missed the goal or their keeper made timely saves.”
