BHS tennis teams win region championships

The Bainbridge High School boys and girls tennis teams both won Region 1-AAAAA championships last Thursday at the BHS tennis courts.
The Lady Bearcats beat Harris County 3-0 in their opening match, then defeated Lee County 3-0 in the championship.
The Bearcats defeated Hardaway 3-0, then defeated Lee County 3-1 in the championship.
With the region championships, both the boys and the girls secured top seeds in the state’s AAAAA tennis tournament.
The Lady Bearcats were to host Union Grove High School, of Henry County, on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the BHS courts.
The Bearcats are hosting Northgate High School, from Newnan, Ga., at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the BHS courts.
Head tennis coach Amy Thomas said she was very proud of both teams’ efforts.
Thomas also noted that last week, Bainbridge senior Hilary Jean Flournoy signed a letter of intent to play tennis at Georgia Southwestern University next year.
