BHS band program gives out annual awards

Many deserving band members were recognized during the annual Bainbridge High School Band spring concert and awards program held on Thursday night in the gymnasium on campus.

The Outstanding Freshman Award was presented to Grace McIntosh, while Malasia Taylor and Trey Walker won awards for Outstanding Sophomore band members. Jill Overman and Kelsey Andrews were recognized with Outstanding Junior Awards.

Three students — Taylor Bush, Kenya Strong, and Stanley Fagg-were recognized with Outstanding Concert Band Member Awards. The National School Marching Band Award was presented to Lanoris Florence.

The Optimism Award was presented to J’Marquis Williams and Clint Edmunds won the National Patrick Gilmore Band Award. Two band members, Yamantie Galnares and Tanner Jackson, were presented with the Director’s Award.

Travis Hunt won the John M. Long Band Award. This award recognizes a band member who displays leadership, dependability, loyalty, cooperation, and leadership. It is one of the top awards given in the band program.

The John Philip Sousa Band Award was presented to Kyle Horne. This award is given in recognition of outstanding achievement and interest in instrumental music, for singular merit in loyalty and cooperation, and displaying high qualities of conduct required by school instrumental music.

Tanner Jackson and Kyle Horne were presented Emory Edwin and Kathleen Ivey Johnson Music Scholarships, while Travis Hunt won the Paschal Ward Music Scholarship.

Emory Johnson was presented with the Joe Crine Award, given to an individual who displays high morals, character and support to the Decatur County Band program.
