Bainbridge Public Safety officers have made several drug-related arrests within the past few days.

On Wednesday, Public Safety investigators executed a search warrant at Hutto McIver Apartments on MLK Jr. Drive, Apt. 11-C, said Major Robert Humphrey, chief investigator at BPS.

Inside the apartment, officers found several small bags containing suspected marijuana and seven small bags containing suspected cocaine, totaling approximately one ounce of cocaine.

Leonidras Undrae Campbell, 45, of 1110 Baker Phillips Road, Attapulgus, was inside the apartment during the search and was arrested.

According to BPS, Campbell was charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana (less than an ounce), possession of cocaine within 1,000 feet of a housing project and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon during the commission of a crime.

Several other people inside the apartment, which was not Campbell’s residence, were not charged, said Major Humphrey.

 

Father and son charged

In a separate, unrelated incident occurring at about 10 a.m. the morning of Friday, May 10, BPS officers executed a search warrant at King West Apartments, 1732 Bethel Road.

BPS investigators had received information alleging that illegal drugs were being sold out of apartment 4-E, Investigator Mark Esquivel said.

After getting a judge’s OK to search the apartment, BPS officers found 27 baggies of suspected marijuana, as well as digital scales commonly used to weigh marijuana, according to Investigator Esquivel.

Following the search, BPS officers arrested Thomas Kirksey, 58, and his son, 23-year-old Arrillious Kirksey.

Both men were charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a housing project.

Participating in Friday’s search warrant were Major Robert Humphrey, Captain Mark Esquivel, Captain Shannon Dunaway, Captain Ryan Wimberly, Investigator Ryan Deen, Investigator Chip Nix, Investigator Anthony Stubbs, Cpl. Tom Foster and Officer Ken Williams.

 

Pot found after argument

On Thursday, May 2, BPS officers found suspected marijuana at a residence at Landmark Apartments, 1605 Miluli Avenue, after responding to a 911 call regarding a domestic incident.

At about 9:30 a.m., Cpl. Tom Foster and Officer Ken Williams responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at Apt. F-102.

A woman stated that she and her boyfriend had been in an argument. Officers observed that the woman had a busted lip, which she said was caused by her boyfriend striking her in the mouth.

While talking with the woman, BPS officers Foster and Williams both noted what they believed was the odor of burning marijuana coming from inside the apartment. The woman said she didn’t know where the smell was coming from but gave officers permission to search the apartment.

Officers found a lunch box containing a portable scale and a mason jar, also within the lunch box, which contained numerous plastic baggies filled with suspected marijuana.

BPS investigators Chip Nix and Anthony Stubbs found several more plastic bags of marijuana elsewhere within the home.

Devon Dontarrius Evans, 23, of 1605 Miluli Avenue Apt. F-102, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and simple battery (Family Violence Act).
