Tyree Crump poured in 24 points Tuesday night to lead coach Rickey McCullough’s Bainbridge High School Bearcats to a 55-47 victory over the Colquitt County High School Packers.
Dominque Douglas and Trevon Shaw added nine points apiece and McCullough said the scoring efforts of all three of his top scorers were keys to the victory.
“Tyree hit well from outside, and Dominic and Trevon rebounded well and shot well from in close,” he said. “I like the balance we are getting in our scoring and the defense everyone is giving us. We just need to keep it up.”
The Bearcats led 11-6 at the end of the first quarter.
They outscored the visitors 12-11 in the second quarter to take a 23-17 halftime lead.
The Packers outscored the Bearcats 11-8 in the third quarter to cut the Bearcats lead to three at 31-28 entering the fourth quarter. The Bearcats outscored them 24-9 in the fourth quarter to put the game away.
“If we keep scoring the way we are and cut back on turnovers we should continue to get better,” McCullough said.
The Bearcats concluded the pre-holiday portion of their regular season schedule Friday when they met the Thomasville High School Bulldogs on the road.
Coach McCullough said the youth of this year’s team is sometimes very evident.
“Sometimes you will not know what you are going to get from game to game, but you know the hustle and desire is always going to be there,” he said. “We will grow and improve as the season progresses from week to week.”
