Attendees of the Pilot Club’s annual roast, to be held Thursday, Feb. 6, can share in the fun as Dr. Don Robinson is subjected to the good-natured jokes and jibes from friends and a promised mysterious “roaster.”
The fun begins with dinner at 7 p.m. at Howard Johnson’s (formerly the Charter House). Tickets are $25 each and the last day to purchase them is Thursday, Jan. 30. They are available from Emily Yent Edward Jones Office, 102 E. Broughton St., and may be reserved by calling 246-6400. No tickets will be sold at the door.
Robinson’s background and community involvement are certain to provide plenty of fuel for the speakers.
Robinson, an obstetrician/gynecologist, has practiced in Bainbridge since 1987.
He graduated with a Bachelor of Science, Magna Cum Laude from Mercer University in 1976, and received his Doctor of Medicine in 1980 from the Medical College of Georgia before completing his residency at Mercer University School of Medicine.
After completing an internship and residencies he served in the United States Air Force from 1985 to 1987.
During his military service he was stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base Hospital Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota; Hot Springs VA Hospital in Hot Springs, S. Dakota; and at Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta. In each assignment he practiced in his Ob/Gyn field of medicine.
Dr. Robinson has been on the active staff of Bainbridge Memorial Hospital from 1987 to the present, during which he has served as Chairman of the Ob/Gyn Dept., Chief of Staff, and physician recruiter.
He is an American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists Fellow, and holds membership in many medical associations.
An advocate of health and fitness, he has written columns for The Post Searchlight on women’s health issues, as well as informative articles about Rotary programs.
An active and avid member of the Bainbridge Rotary Club since 1995, he and his wife Mary have served as member hosts for the Georgia Resident Student Program student, is a past-president of the club and has served as state chair of the Georgia Rotary Dist. Character Education Program.
His other involvements with the community include membership in the Bainbridge-Decatur County Chamber of Commerce, of which he is a past president; the Kiwanis Club and the Decatur County 21st Community Leadership Program.
He is an active member of the First United Methodist Church where he has served in nearly every lay position.
His special interests are photography, nature and history, especially of the Civil War era.
He and his wife Mary have two grown children, Tal and Laura.
The Pilot Club Roast is a major annual fund raiser for the club, which has as its major focus, brain related conditions.
