The Bainbridge High School Lady Cats won two games last weekend behind strong double figure scoring efforts by Patra Parris, Beonka Madge and Alesandria Carter.
On Friday they defeated the Harris County High School Lady Tigers 67-55 in a Region 1-AAAAA game behind a 23-point effort by Parris, an 11-point effort by Madge and a 10-point effort by Carter.
On Saturday they defeated the Cairo High School Syrupmaids 47-32 behind a 14-point effort by Parris and 10-point efforts by Madge and Carter.
The two weekend wins left the Lady Cats with an 8-10 overall record and a 3-3 Region 1-AAAAA mark.
The Lady Cats took an early 6-0 lead over the Lady Pirates Friday on a fast break layup by Parris at the 6:39 mark, a turn around jumper in the lane by Parris at the 5:40 mark and a layup off the left glass by Madge at the 4:10 mark.
A jumper in the lane by Alexis Russ with just 15 seconds remaining put the Lady Cats up 13-6 at the end of the first quarter.
The Lady Cats took their first double-digit lead at 17-6 when Russ hit a layup off the right glass with 6:38 showing on the second quarter clock.
They went on to score the next seven points to go up 24-6.
Madge increased the advantage to 20-6 when she shot a jumper from the right side, was fouled and hit a free throw at the 6:01 mark. She then concluded the 7-0 run with a three-point jumper from the left side with 5:56 remaining. They led 29-19 at halftime and 45-26 after three quarters.
Saturday against the Syrupmaids, the Lady Cats jumped out to an early 9-3 lead and continued to build on it.
Parris grabbed a rebound and put it back in with 1:26 remaining to give the Lady Cats their first double-digit lead at 15-5.
They led 15-9 at the end of the first quarter. Parris’s layup with just 14.5 seconds remaining sent them to halftime with a 30-21 lead.
The lead went up 13 points to 37-24 when Carter hit a jumper at the 1:10 mark of the third quarter. They went up by 15 at 41-26 when Tameria Levens hit a jumper with 7:18 remaining in the fourth.
Coach Kelvin Cochran said he thought his Lady Cats played well Friday and Saturday.
“Turnovers hurt us early Friday, but we turned it on late,” Cochran said. “Saturday we played well on both offense and defense the entire game.”
The Lady Cats took on the Lee County High School Lady Trojans in a Region 1-AAAAA game Tuesday in Leesburg and they will take on the Northside Columbus High School Lady Patriots in a Region 1AAAAA game Friday in Columbus.
On Saturday they will host the Region 1AAAAA Hardaway High School Lady Golden Hawks in their final regular season home game.
