Region 1-AAAA divides into sub-region in 2014

After last week’s decision for Thomas County Central and Bainbridge to play down in Region 1-AAAA football, the region has voted to subdivide.
Bainbridge was placed in Sub-region A with Americus-Sumter, Doughtery, Westover and Worth County. Sub-region B will consist of Cairo, Albany, Crisp County, Monroe and Thomas County Central.
“I was not in favor of the subdivision vote, but I was not the majority,” Bainbridge football coach Jeff Littleton said.
Each region school drew two crossover opponents to play in addition to their sub-region games. Bainbridge did not draw Thomas County Central or Cairo, both major rivalries for the school. Littleton agreed with TCC coach Tom Bill Shaver and Cairo coach Tom Fallaw that they would play each other anyway.
“They are rival games,” Littleton said. “Our fans want to see us play each other, and since they’re in close proximity, they can see the games.”
Playoff positioning within the region has not been completely finalized yet. One possibility that has been proposed is the two sub-region champions playing for the region championship and runner-up, with the two No. 2 teams playing each other for the third and fourth place spot.
In addition to the nine region games Bainbridge will be playing, their tenth game will be against Early County, a Region 1-AA school.
Now, teams will play four sub-region games, two crossover games, and a play-in game the final week of the season.
