Marjorie O’Steen “Katy” Dowdy, 85, of Bainbridge, passed away Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014 at Memorial Hospital.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014 at Grace Church with Pastor Jason Shiver and Pastor John Woodrum officiating. Interment will be at Oak City Cemetery with Jad Dowdy, Jeff Dowdy, Jason Shiver, Jack McRae, Sam McRae, and Braden Dowdy serving as active pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014 at Ivey Funeral Home.
Mrs. Dowdy was born Jan. 12, 1929 in Trenton, Fla., the daughter of William Lester O’Steen and Maggie Virginia Lee O’Steen. She was a graduate of Trenton High School and was a business partner with her husband, Toby, as owners of WMGR/WJAD radio stations. Mrs. Dowdy was a member of Grace Church.
Survivors include her children, Joan Dowdy Shiver and her husband, Dewayne, of Bainbridge, and John A. Dowdy, Jr. and his wife, Brenda, of Bainbridge; her grandchildren, Mardi Shiver McRae and her husband, Mallory, John A. “Jad” Dowdy, III and his wife, Elena, Jeffrey M. Dowdy and his wife, Amy, and Jason Shiver and his wife, Amy; her great-grandchildren, Jack, Sam, Riley, Kate, Lainey, Jackson, Ransom, Katherine, Braden, Simon, John Adams, Lucy, Elizabeth, and Everett.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, John Adams, “Toby” Dowdy and John Dodd; and her siblings, Roy O’Steen, J.D. O’Steen, Edith O. Snowden, and Ruby O. Parrish.
