The Bainbridge Bearcat baseball team grabbed an early game lead and refused to let it go against the Miller County Pirates, finishing with 10-1 victory Wednesday at Bainbridge.
The game was decided quickly as the Bearcats exerted its will early with nine runs in the first three innings. The Pirates scored a run in the top of the first when a Miller County player drove in a teammate on a pop fly.
Bainbridge took advantage of walks and well-placed hits to drive in runs and rack up their score early.
An RBI single by Ben Day, a walk by Dustin Strickland, a hit by pitch, a walk by Jordan Davis, a hit by pitch, and a two-run single by Grant McDonald in the first inning added seven runs to the board.
An RBI single by Seth Hall and a groundout by Jordan during the second inning fueled Bainbridge’s lead. A strong defense held the team in place for the rest of the game and earned them the win. Strickland racked up two RBIs on one hit for the night. Another standout player was Grant McDonald, who went two for four with two RBIs.
Four relief pitchers didn’t loosen their grasp on the win as they finished off the game for Bainbridge Bearcats Varsity. Tate Lambert faced four batters in relief, while Tyler Braswell managed to record six outs to aid the victory.
