At approximately 12:45 a.m. Wednesday, Bainbridge Public Safety Patrol Corporal Terry Pait responded to a call on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive at the Hutto McGyver Apartments in reference to several gunshots fired.
When Pait arrived at the scene, a crowd of people had gathered around a shot man lying in the middle of the street. The victim had been shot in his right leg just below the knee.
Police reports say the victim was conscious and in pain, though was unwilling or unable to give a description of the individual who shot him.
BPS Captain Mark Esquivel was contacted to help in the investigation.
“Three shots were fired into a group of males,” Esquivel said.
Esquivel said he and Pait collected shell cases they found and spoke to witnesses, but nobody was able to identify the suspects.
“We’re currently pursuing several leads,” Esquivel said.
During the investigation, Esquivel said he has searched several locations and uncovered drugs, ammunition and a .38 revolver that doesn’t appear to be the one used in the shooting.
“If anyone has any information about this shooting, don’t hesitate to call BPS,” Esquivel said.
