Harveys transitions to Food Giant this weekend

The local Harvey’s supermarket will close this Saturday, May 10 at 1 p.m. and reopen on Sunday at noon with a new name. It will become a Food Giant grocery.
Adam Thompson, local manager, said the brief closure is to make the necessary technical changes to the time clocks, registers, etc.
Thompson said he believed there had been some confusion over the way other area Harveys have been handled. Most of them are transitioning to Bi-Lo markets, but because Bainbridge already has a Bi-Lo/Winn-Dixie market, the Federal Trade Commission said the Bainbridge Harveys could not be a Bi-Lo. It was subsequently sold to the Food Giant chain.
Thompson promises Harveys customers the same services will be provided by the same employees under the new ownership.
“We will still have Super Savers on Wednesdays and the same deli offerings,” she said. “We need our customers to come in and check us out after the transition.”
