Coach Erwin Harrell’s Grace Christian Academy Lady Cougars volleyball team divided two matches last week.

They dropped a 3-2 region decision to the Valwood School Lady Valliants Tuesday in Valdosta and shut out the Dale County Christian School Lady Crusaders Friday at Perry Memorial Gymnasium.

Their season record is now 5-1. They are 1-1 in Georgia Independent Schools Association Region 2 play.

The Lady Cats dropped the first set 25-21 to Valwood, won the second set 25-20, dropped the third set 25-20, won the fourth set 25-17 and dropped the fifth set 15-9.

Lady Cougars leaders in the Valwood match were Sarah Castoro with 18 of 19 serves for a 95 percentage and six digs, Kelsey Harrell with 12 kills, 13 of 14 serves and a 93 percentage with six digs, Perra Harrell with six digs, Kaitlyn Holcombe with two blocks and Lindsey Duke with 15 assists.

Against Dale County, the Lady Cougars won the first set 25-5, won the second set 25-14 and won the third set 25-6.

Lady Cats leaders in the Valwood match were Kelsey Harrell with 10 kills, a .467 hitting percentage and 12 ace serves, Lindsey Duke with a 100 percent serving percentage hitting 14 of 14 and 16 assists, and Perra Harrell with 11 out of 12 serves.

Coach Harrell said that while his team certainly hates to lose a Region 2 match to Valwood, he thought his team fought hard and are looking forward to a return match with them Thursday, Oct. 2, at Perry Memorial Gymnasium.

“It was great to bounce back and defeat Dale County after such an emotional loss to Valwood,” coach Harrell said. “The ladies played strong and determined”

The Lady Cougars return to action Thursday when they host Dale County Christian School from Ozark Alabama at 6 p.m.
