An undetermined amount of gas was spilled on a property on North Sims Street near the railroad, and dirt in the area is being removed.
“We don’t really know how the gas got into the ground,” Bainbridge City Marshal Keith Pollock said. “All we know is that there has been a semi tanker truck that has been parking on that property, and now there’s a large amount of gas contaminating the ground.”
Pollock referred to the incident as “suspicious” and said that CSX, the transportation company that owns the property, is conducting an investigation.
CSX also contacted the trucking company that owned the semi truck that was parked on the property, and the company is assisting with cleanup, Pollack said.
