Mr. James William Holmes, age 79, passed away early, Wednesday morning, October 29, 2014, at his home in Bainbridge. Services for Mr. Holmes will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, November 1, 2014, at Climax Baptist Church in Climax. Rev. Steve Poppell and Rev. Rawleigh Furney will be officiating. The interment will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery. The Rev. Greg Parker will officiate at graveside. The grandsons and granddaughters of Mr. Holmes will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening, 6-8 p.m., at Cox Funeral Home Chapel.
James William Holmes was born March 12, 1935 in Columbus, Georgia. His parents were Robert Washington Holmes and Mary Carrie Halstead Holmes. They have both preceded him in death. James attended El Dorendo Holiness Church. He retired from Amoco Fabrics. Mr. Holmes loved farming. He also enjoyed working on lawn mowers. James Holmes will be sorely missed by the family he loved so much.
James William Holmes is survived by his children, Robert Lewis McIntyre of Bainbridge, Recie Jones and husband, Tony of Angleton, Texas, Thomas Wade Shoemaker and wife, Janice of Bainbridge, Judy Josey and husband, Wayne of Bainbridge, Jimmy Holmes and wife, Karen of Climax, and Janice Behre Holmes of Wetumpka, Alabama; one brother, Benny Roy Holmes of Columbus, Georgia; grandsons, Joseph E. McCall, Jr., Billy Jack Wingate, Joshua Lee Holmes, Thomas Wade Shoemaker, II, Lewis McIntyre, Charlie Jones, Dakota Hames, Kevin Campbell and Tyler Campbell; granddaughters, Christina Shoemaker, Danielle Holmes, Norma Jean McIntyre Farace, Tina Rocha, Samantha Worth, and Ronna McIntyre; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 26 years, Ella Behre Spooner Holmes; and granddaughter, Candy McIntyre.
