Reuben Matthew Reynolds, Jr., 86, of Bainbridge, GA, passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at his residence surrounded by loving family.

The graveside funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 28, 2014 at Oak City Cemetery with Rev. Randy Mosley officiating.

Mr. Reynolds was born August 17, 1928 in Bainbridge, GA, the son of Reuben Matthew Reynolds, Sr. and Annie Barber Reynolds.

A 1947 graduate of Bainbridge High School, he attended Emory University and graduated from Oglethorpe College.  He was a retired banker who had followed in this father’s footsteps to become the Chairman of the Board of the Citizens Bank and Trust Company and a timber farmer responsible for the planting of many thousands of trees during his career.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, and was a lifelong supporter of Epworth by the Sea and many local community charities.

As a supporter of the Boy Scouts of America, he was awarded the Silver Beaver Award.

He donated the Bon-Air Hotel to the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation to encourage the growth and development of downtown Bainbridge.  Among his many charitable endeavors was the gift of the land the YMCA sits upon.  He was a great patron of the arts, especially theatre and opera, and loved to travel with his wife and family.

Survivors include his sons, Reuben Matthew Reynolds, III of Boston, MA, Joseph M. “Jay” Reynolds of Atlanta, GA, and John B. Reynolds of Bainbridge, GA; and his grandchildren, Reuben A. Reynolds, Lucille A. Reynolds, Anne M. Reynolds, and John C. Reynolds. He was preceded in death by his wife, Oline Miller Reynolds.
