The Bainbridge High Lady Cats basketball team swept two weekend games to take over sole possession of first place in Region 1-AAAA.

Friday they defeated the Dougherty High School Lady Trojans 65-42 in Albany and Saturday they defeated Albany’s Monroe High School Lady Tornadoes 74-67 at home.

The Lady Cats, who are 17-4 overall, and the Lady Tornadoes were tied for first place in the region entering Saturday night’s game with identical 5-0 records.

In their Friday night win over the Lady Trojans in Albany, the Lady Cats were led by Patra Parris, who took game scoring honors with 28 points. Asia Gordon and Beonka Madge added 10 points apiece. Aliya Davis and Dominique Anderson led the Lady Trojans with 20 apiece.

The Lady Cats led the Lady Trojans 18-11 after one quarter, 34- 25 at half time and 49-34 after three quarters.

In Saturday night’s match up with the Lady Tornadoes for the region lead, the Lady Cats were again led by Parris with a game high 30 points. Also in double figures was Alexandria Carter with 18 points and Nadia Marshall with 10.

Parris hit two free throws with 4:03 left in the first quarter to put the Lady Cats ahead 10-7. They trailed 20-15 at the end of the first quarter. Tameria Levens, who finished with 8 points, hit a jumper from the right side with 7:15 left in the second quarter to put the Lady Cats up 22-15. Carter then hit a 3-pointer from the right side to make it 25-15. The Lady Trojans led 37-34 at half time.

The Lady Cats reclaimed the lead 46-43 when Levens hit a 3-pointer from the right side with 2:09 left on the third quarter clock. They led 51-47 at the end of the third quarter.

A Parris layup with 3:35 remaining in the game put the Lady Cats up by eight, 65-57. They Lady Tornadoes outscored them 10-9 the rest of the way.

Lady Cats coach Kelvin Cochran said his team turned in strong efforts both Friday and Saturday nights.

“We knew that Monroe was the defending Region 1-AAAA champion and it would take a strong effort to beat them,” he said. “Everyone contributed to the win. “We also got strong contributions from a lot of players Saturday night against Dougherty.”

The Lady Cats took on the Westover High School Lady Patriots in a Region 1-AAAA game Tuesday in Albany. They will host the Worth County High School Lady Rams n a Region 1-AAAA game Saturday at home and travel to Thomas County Saturday for a Region 1-AAAA game with the Thomas County Central High School Lady Yellow Jackets.
