Mr. Walter J. Rambeau entered into Eternal Rest on January 29, 2015 at 7:30 a.m. Funeral services were held Friday, February 6, 2015 at 1 p.m., with The Rev. John D. Thomas Sr. officiating.  Interment followed at Jonas Lobe Cemetery with Mr. Spencer Butler, Mr. Darrell Close, Mr. Willie Davis, Mr. George Freeman Sr., Mr. Collins Greenlee Jr., Mr. Andrew Jackson, Mr. Eddie Johnson, Mr. Michael Stanton, Mr. Tommie Williams as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Coach James Bland, Mr. George Brown, Councilman Luther Conyers, Dr. John Culbreath, Dr. Melvin Gadson, Mr. Cornell Hamilton, Mr. William Johnson, Mr. T. Jan Perry, Mr. Donald Poole, Mr. Johnny Rogers, Dr. Marvin Thomas, Mayor Saint T. Thomas, Dr. Eugene Williams

Walter J. Rambeau was born April 9, 1919 in Donalsonville, Georgia. He was the seventh oldest child of eleven born to Samuel and Dixie Johnson Rambeau. His siblings were Gaudie, Alonga, Andrew, Lindsay, Cora, Shelley, Alwilda, Cleotha, Claudia, and Bennye.  Alonga, the second oldest child, died at the age of nine.

Mr. Rambeau attended the public schools of Seminole County, Georgia and graduated from Hutto High School in Bainbridge, Georgia. After graduating high school, he received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Georgia State College (now Savannah State University). He received a Master’s Degree in Agriculture from Tuskegee Institute University and a Master’s Degree in Supervision from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University.

After graduation he accepted a teaching position in Cuthbert, Georgia. He taught Agriculture and Science. During his forty-five year tenure, Mr. Rambeau became an Assistant Principal and he was inducted as a life-member of the Georgia High School Association. After retiring from education in Cuthbert, he returned to Bainbridge to live and taught as a Substitute Teacher.

Rambeau was a dedicated member of Nelson Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church.  He served faithfully as a Steward and Trustee, as well as a member of the Choir, Finance Committee, Program Committee, and the Sons of Allen Organization.

He remained active in the community, where he enjoyed mentoring young people and always encouraging them to work hard and get an education.  Mr. Rambeau was an avid sports fan, particularly football, baseball, and basketball.  As a fan, he would proudly sell tickets to home games. As a tribute to his dedication to high school athletics, Randolph-Clay High School Baseball Field was named in his honor.

He is survived by the youngest of his ten siblings, his sister, Bennye (Gerald Sr.) Rambeau Boswell of Ridgewood, New Jersey; her children:  Gerald Boswell Jr., Lindsay K. Boswell, and Juli B. Tucker; her grandson, Brice Tucker; his goddaughters/caregivers, Constance (Cornell) Hamilton and Sylvia (T. Jan) Perry; a devoted cousin, Mary Griffin Perry; and a host of other relatives and friends.
