Coach Christopher Bryant’s Bainbridge Middle School Bearcats baseball team divided two games this week.
On Monday, they defeated Robert F. Munroe School 2-0 in Quincy, Florida, and on Tuesday they lost to Baconton 7-0 in Baconton.
The Bearcats took a 1-0 lead over Robert F. Munroe in the top of the second inning. With one away Wesley Morrow drew a base on balls. He moved to second on a fielder’s choice and came home on a fielder’s choice.
The second Bearcats run was scored by second baseman Austyn Holcome who singled, moved up to second on a fielder’s choice, and came home on a single by shortstop Sam Boutwell.
Tuesday’s match up with Baconton was a very emotional contest. Prior to the game, both teams participated in a special memorial service for Jackson O’Quin, a Baconton left fielder. O’Quinn lost his life in a firearms accident in January.
The Bearcats posted a “Playing for Jackson” sign in their dugout and distributed “Play for Jackson” armbands to all the Baconton and Bearcat players.
“In was a very emotional game in Baconton,” Bryant, said. “Both teams were really thinking of Jackson and his family.”
