Lady Cougars knock out Memorial Day, advance to Elite 8 round

The Grace Christian Academy Lady Cougars basketball team defeated Memorial Day School of Savannah 38-36 Tuesday at Lagrange College to advance to the “Elite 8” round of the Georgia Independent Schools Association State Class AA Tournament.
Leading the way for the Lady Cougars were Perra Harrell and Shellby Woodrum with 22 points apiece. Harrell had seven rebounds, three steals and four assists. Woodrum had two steals and two assists.
Rounding out the scoring column for the Lady Cougars were Kelsey Harrell with six points, Kaitlyn Holcombe with four points and four rebounds, and Lindsey Duke with four points.
Lady Cougars coach Erwin Harrell said he thought his team’s defensive effort was the difference in the game.
“We went to a box defense to shut of their penetration and the ladies really executed it well,” he said.
The Lady Cougars returned to action Friday against Lagrange Academy at 4:30 p.m.
