Lady Cats stung by Yellow Jackets, shut out Brooks Co.

The Bainbridge High School Lady Cats soccer team shut out the Brooks County High School Lady Trojans 6-0 Tuesday in Quitman, concluding their regular season with a 10-7 overall record and 7-3 Region 1-AAAA mark.
They finished fourth in the Region and will take on Veterans Hospital in Kathleen in the first round of the State Class AAAA Tournament on Tuesday.
The Lady Cats took a quick 2-0 lead on goals by forward llean Marquez and midfielder Summer Boyd.
The Bearcats stretched their lead to 3-0 in the 20th minute when senior when senior defender Rebecca Mulkey scored from six yards out after receiving a pass from Honorina Barrios.
In the 28th minute sophomore midfielder Aida Gonzalas got outside the Lady Trojans defense and sent a well placed pass in the center to teammate Elizabeth Brinson who shot and scored from eight yards away to increase the Lady Cats lead to 4-0.
The fifth goal of the first half came in the 34th minute. It was scored by junior utility player Derrical Williams who intercepted a pass and split two defenders before scoring from close range.
The final Lady Cats goal, which came in the 42nd minute of the second half, was scored by sophomore midfielder Haley Thompson, who took a pass from Mulkey, broke away and scored from eight yards out.
The Bainbridge High School Lady Cats soccer team dropped a 5-1 Region 1-AAAA decision to the Thomas County Central High School Lady Yellow Jackets Thursday, April 16, on the road.
They scored first in the fifth minute when one of their midfielders was able to shoot and score from the top of the Bearcats penalty area.
The Lady Cats pulled even 1-1 in the ninth minute when senior midfielder Jennifer Becerra got past the Lady Yellow Jackets defender and scored from six yards out. Senior defender Rebecca Mulkey sent a pass through the Lady Yellow Jackets defense to Becerra, who ran diagonally in front and then calmly passed the ball into the goal.
Lady Yellow Jackets forward Jade helped her team regain the lead in the 11th minute when she received a pass and split the Lady Bearcats defense, scoring on a breakaway to put the Lady Yellow Jackets up 2-1. They increased their advantage to 3-1 following a penalty kick conversion in the 18th minute.
Guyton scored the final goal of the first half in the 32nd minute when a lofted ball by a teammate gave her a chance to get behind the Lady Cats defense and get a shot off just outside the six yard box on the left side for the score giving the Lady Yellow Jackets a 4-0 halftime lead.
The lone goal of the second half came in the 50th minute when Guyton beat Lady Cats freshman goal keeper Morgan Powell and touched in a shot from four yards away to give her a three goal hat trick on the night.
