Lady Cat, Bearcat basketball teams celebrate season

The Bainbridge High School Bearcats and Lady Cats basketball teams were honored for their outstanding 2014-2015 seasons Thursday during their annual awards banquet at the school cafeteria.
Coach Rickey McCullough’s Bearcats, led by starters Tyree Crump, Myles Thomas, Trevon Shaw, Devontae Jones and team captain Malik Middleton, fell just one win short of making it to the State Class AAAA Tournament.
Coach Kelvin Cochran’s Lady Cats, led by starters Patra Parris, Alexandria Carter, Tameria Levens, Nadia Marshall and Beonka Madge, punched their ticket to the State Class AAAA Tournament with a 71-17 Region 1-AAAA Tournament victory over the Worth County High School Lady Rams at the Americus-Sumter County High School Gymnasium.
The Lady Cats dropped a heartbreaking 62-58 decision to the Veterans High School Lady Warhawks in the first round of the State Class AAAA Tournament in Kathleen.
Bearcat Tyree Crump, a junior who has verbally committed to the University of Georgia and averaged who averaged 22.6 points a game, 4.7 rebounds a game, 3.3 assists a game and 1.8 steals a game was named Bearcats best all around player and first team All-Region 1-AAAA.He was also honored for being first team All Area and All State.
Lady Cats team captain Patra Patis, who has signed a basketball scholarship with Albany’s Darton College Lady Cavaliers, averaged 16.2 points a game, 10.4 rebounds a game, 1.1 assists a game and two steals a game, was honored as the teams leading scorer, leading rebounder and leading shot blocker. Crump was also honored for being first team All-Area and All State.
Honored for their second team All-Region 1AAAA selections were Bearcat Trevon Shaw and Lady Cats Alexandria Carter and Nadia Marshall.
Shaw, who was also honored for being the rebound leader and the shot block leader. He averaged 12.9 points a game and 7.5 rebounds a game. Carter averaged 11.4 points a game, 2.2 rebounds a game, 1.6 assists a game and 2.8 steals a game. Marshall averaged 10 points a game, eight rebounds a game and 2.2 steals a game. Maleke Lurry was honored as the Bearcats most improved player.
Honored for being third team All-Region 1-AAAA were Bearcat Myles Thomas and Lady Cat Tameria Levens. Thomas averaged 7.4 points a game, six rebounds a game and 1.4 assists a game. Malik Middleton won the award for being the Bearcats assist leader and was team captain. Devontae Jones as honored as the as the Bearcats best defensive player and steals leader.
Patra Paris was the Lady Cats’ scoring leader, rebounding leading shot blocker, and team captain. Captain. She was also first team All Region 1-AAAA, first team All Area and first team All State. Alexandria Carter was the leading 3-point shooter, team captain, second team All Region 1-AAAA and honorable mention All Area.
Beonka Madge was the Lady Cats steals leader and assist leader, Asia Gorden was the Lady Cats best defensive player, and Nadia Marshall, who was second team All Region 1AAAA and honorable mention All Area was the Lady Cats most improved player and best free throw shooter.
Lady Cats team captain Alexandria Carter was the team’s leading 3-point shooter. She was also second team All Region 1AAAA and honorable mention All Area. Lady Cats captain Tameria Levens was third team All Region 1AAAA, and honorable mention All Area.
