Bearcat track and field athletes earn medals at state meet

Coach Larry Cosby’s Bainbridge High School Bearcats track team finished eleventh in a strong 46-team State Class AAAA Track Meet field Thursday through Saturday in Jefferson.
Victor Bodison captured a medal for finishing second in the state in the long jump with a personal best leap of 22-feet-9.5-inches. He was also twelfth in the high jump with a leap of 5-feet-10-inches.
Cervantes Jackson turned in a medal winning performance in the triple jump with a second place personal best leap of 47-feet-2-inches. He was also eleventh in the high jump, clearing the bar at a height of 5-feet-10-inches.
Jackson also won a medal for finishing third in the 110-meter hurdles with a personal best time of time of 14.55. Also contributing to the Bearcats strong effort was Poncherella Leonard, who was ninth in the 800 meter run in a time of 1:58.46.
Jaylyn Scott finished fourth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 40.56.
Jean Jeanty Jeanty was 11th in the long jump with a leap of 19-feet-11-inches and Isaiah Brown finished 15th in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.58. Chase Harris was thirteenth in the 3200-meter run with a time of 10:03.18.
Bearcats coach Cosby said he thought his team performed extremely well against strong competition at the state meet.
“Everyone gave a 100 percent effort against extremely strong competition at the state meet and I could not have asked for more,” Cosby said.
