Coach Kelvin Cochran sent his Bainbridge High School varsity and junior varsity Lady Cats basketball teams through camp games and practice sessions Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at the school gymnasium.
“We are kind of in a rebuilding mode,” Cochran said Wednesday as he sent his young players through some workout drills. “We lost a lot of strong players to graduation who led us to the first round of the State Class AAAA playoffs last season.”
Two of the best were senior captains Patra Parris and Alexandria Carter.
“Patra Parris, who has signed a basketball scholarship with Albany’s Darton College Lady Cavaliers, was a strong scorer and rebounder inside and Alexandria Carter was a strong outside shooter and defensive player.
“Alexandria is also a very strong academic student who could walk on in the basketball program at whatever school she decides to attend.”
Parris, who was first team All Region 1AAAA and All Area, averaged 16.2 points a game, and 10.4 rebounds a game, 1.2 assists a game and two steals a game. She was the Lady Cats leading rebounder and shot blocker. Carter was the team’s leading 3-point shooter. Cochran said they also lost Beonka Madge, who was an excellent ball handler and passer.
“We have many young players in camp who are hustling and working hard to earn positions,” Cochran said.
Coach Cochran’s young varsity Lady Cats defeated both the Thomasville High School Lady Bulldogs and Early County High School Lady Bobcats in the varsity competition. The Lady Bulldogs finished second by downing the Lady Bobcats.
