Roy G. Sawyer, Jr., 93, of Douglas, GA went to be with the Lord on June 23, 2015.

Roy was born March 3, 1922 in Seminole County, GA. He was the son of Roy Garrett Sawyer, Sr. and Gladys Norman Sawyer.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 29, 2015 at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., at Bethany Baptist Church, 216 Bethany Church Rd., Brinson, GA, 39825. Dr. Shep Johnson, Pastor, of First Baptist Church of Douglas, GA, will be officiating. Interment will follow at the Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to: Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, 1 Billy Graham Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28201-0001 (www.billygraham.org/FundEvangelism).

Roy had a long and successful career with Delta Airlines in aircraft maintenance. He began as a mechanic in 1946 and moved up the ranks to retire after 40 years, as General Foreman of Technical Operations.

Roy was a devout Christian. He served as a youth Sunday School Teacher, Boy Scout Leader and Deacon at First Baptist Church of College Park. His last years were spent as a member of First Baptist Church of Douglas. He enjoyed reading the Bible, sharing the Gospel and ministering to others. He took a genuine interest in people and was loved by many.

He is survived by his devoted sons Timothy (Carol) Sawyer of Douglas, GA and Joel (Sally) Sawyer of Orlando, FL; his grandchildren Andrew (Kathryn) Sawyer of Thomasville, GA, Jennie Sawyer (Bradley) Murphy of Simpsonville, SC, Mark Sawyer of Augusta, GA and Sarah Sawyer of Orlando, FL; his brother Norman Sawyer of Brinson, GA; sisters Hilda Duvall of Reynoldsville, GA, Betty Vedder (Bob) Harris of Forsyth, GA, and Saundra Hill Rogers of Reynoldsville, GA; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 66 years Juanita Finchum Sawyer and his parents.
