Bainbridge 11, 12 All Stars play in state tournament in Tifton

The Bainbridge Leisure Services Department’s 11-and-12-year-old Georgia Recreation and Parks Association District 3 champion All Star baseball team defeated the Savannah SunDevils 11-3 Wednesday in five innings in the first round of the State Tournament game in Tifton.
In the second round on Thursday, they were edged 10-9 in five innings by the Thomasville All Stars.
In the win over the Savannah Sun Devils, the Bainbridge All Stars banged out nine hits, six of which went for extra bases, and there were four lead changes in the game. The teams traded runs in the early going.
Leading the way for Bainbridge’s District 3 champions Wednesday was Quayde Hawkins, who doubled in two runs. Michael Conder blasted a two-run home run with Nolan Barr aboard. There were four lead changes in the game.
Hawkins also homered in the third and fifth innings. His fifth inning blast came with Gunner Thomas aboard. Ivan Velasquez also had a three run homer in the inning with Michaell Conder and Nolan Barr aboard.
There were four lead changes in the game and the Bainbridge All Stars banged out nine hits including six for extra bases.
In Thursday’s heartbreaking loss to the Thomasville All Stars the Bainbridge All Stars banged out seven hits. Michael Conder went two for two, homering in the third and singling in the fourth. Bainbridge jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning but Thomasville bounced back to score six in the bottom of the first.
Conder’s third inning home run, a solo blast, parked a key three-run third inning rally for the Bainbridge All Stars.
