The Decatur County Board of Commissioners announced Friday that Alan Thomas is the only candidate it is considering for the position of county administrator after a two-month search yielded no favorable results.
“Our search did not produce any suitable candidates for the county administrator position in Decatur County,” Decatur County Commission Chairman Dennis Brinson said.
Brinson continued to say that Thomas was approached by the board and shared a mutual interest in the county administrator position. The board agreed to reconvene in 14 days to make a decision on voting to hire Thomas.
According to Georgia Open Records Law, the board must wait 14 calendar days prior to the meeting at which final action or vote is to be taken on the position of executive head of an agency.
Thomas served as Decatur County administrator from 1989-2005. He voluntarily resigned after his 16-year tenure for personal reasons.
Prior to his time as administrator, Thomas worked as an EMT in Decatur County and served as the assistant county administrator for one year before taking the job full-time.
