Chris Campbell, manager of the Bainbridge Country Club, spoke at the Rotary Club this week. He gave an update on activities, events, fundraisers and ongoing improvements being made to the grounds.
Campbell said he grew up in LaGrange where he was first introduced to golf. He began working the grounds as a youngster at his hometown course. He described it as being similar to Bainbridge since it was built in 1922, much like the Bainbridge course built in 1921. From there he went to Callaway Gardens and the Robert Trent Course in Auburn, while a student there.
He moved to Bainbridge a couple of years ago from Elijay, Ga., where he was a Real Estate broker.
He describes his job at the country club as unique, going from early mornings to late nights, as he goes from working at agronomy to making sandwiches and everything in between.
He said the facility is available for use of civic groups and that they can help organize charitable golf tournaments.
He described the best project of this past year as fostering a Junior Golf tournament, stressing the importance getting youth interested in playing golf.
Rotarian Clayton Penhallegon spoke up and described the benefits he receives as a social member since he does not play golf. He described the club as an asset to the community.
