Nadia Marshall poured in a game-high 16 points Saturday night in Albany to lead coach Kelvin Cochran’s Bainbridge Lady Cats, who were 3-0 going into Tuesday’s game against the Colquitt County Lady Packers in Moultrie, to a 62-25 victory over the Dougherty County High School Lady Trojans.
Cochran said he liked his team’s intensity and scoring balance against the Lady Trojans.
“We hustled the whole game and kept the defensive pressure on Dougherty,” coach Cochran said. “Alexis Russ with 14 and Tytianna Roseborough with 12 joined Nadia Marshall in the double figure column.”
The Lady Cats were in control all the way. They led 11-2 at the end of the first quarter, then outscored their hosts 20-8 in the second quarter to take a 30-10 halftime lead.
A 23-5 third quarter scoring advantage pushed the Lady Cats lead all the way out to 54-15 entering the fourth quarter. A 10-8 fourth quarter scoring edge by the Lady Trojans was to little to late.
While Bainbridge and Dougherty are both members of Region 1-AAAA, the loss does not count in the Region 1-AAAA standings.
Region 1-AAAA teams play each other twice, and for the second consecutive season only the second meeting will count in the region standings. The second meeting between the Lady Cats and Lady Trojans will be Friday, Jan. 22 in Bainbridge.
“We have to be ready every night,” Cochran said. “We travel back to Albany Friday to play the Westover High School Lady Patriots in a non-counting Region 1-AAAA game and they are very good.
“On Saturday we will host the Worth County High School Rams in another non-counting region game.”
