Bearcats take down Cairo, lose to Bulldogs

The Bainbridge High School Bearcats defeated the Cairo High School Syrupmakers 77-23 Friday night in Cairo and dropped an 86-68 decision to the Thomasville High School Bulldogs Saturday night at home.
Friday night in Cairo, Tyree Crump led the Bearcats with a game-high 28 points. Mifle Gayle put in 12. Bainbridge took command early and continued to build their lead. They led 21-8 at the end of the first quarter, 51-10 at halftime and 66-18 after three quarters. Devontae Jones scored 16, Myles Thomas scored 15, Dante Williams scored 14 and Trevon Shaw scored 10.
“We really shot the ball well against Cairo,” Bearcats head coach Rickey McCullough said following Friday night’s win. “Cairo kind of kept it close early, but then Tyree Crump, Devontae Jones, Myles Thomas and Trevon Shaw really started to take over and put the game away. Myles Thomas and Trevon Shaw also had strong rebounding efforts that were keys to the victory.”
Saturday night in their loss to the Bulldogs, the Bearcats led 43-42 at halftime, but the Bulldogs went on a 22-4 run early in the third quarter to start to pull away. Leading the way for the Bearcats were Tyree Crump with 30 points, Dante Williams and Myles Thomas with 14 points apiece and Trevon Shaw with 10.
Bainbridge will resume their regular season schedule Saturday, January 2 when they host the Americus-Sumter County High School Panthers.
Leading scorers for the Bulldogs Saturday night were Reggie Perru with 23 points, Shedeick Cooper Jordan Willis and Gregory Hobbs were all in double figures for the Bulldogs. Cooper scored 21, Willis scored 13 and Hobbs scored 11.
During the holidays the Bearcats will be playing in the Dec. 27 through Dec. 30 Southern Beach Blowout Tournament in Fort Walton Beach Florida. They will return to regular season action Saturday, Jan. 2, when they host the Americus-Sumter County High School Panthers.
