Lady Cats increase win streak to five after beating Cairo and Thomasville

The Bainbridge High School Lady Cats swept a pair of weekend victories over the Cairo High School Syrupmaids and Thomasville High School Lady Bulldogs.
Friday night in Cairo the Lady Cats defeated the Syrupmaids 72-46 behind a 20-point performance by Nadia Marshall and 14-point efforts by Tytianna Roseborough and Alexis Gaines. Saturday night at home they defeated the Thomasville High School Lady Bulldogs 51-31.
The Lady Cats jumped out to a 29-19 lead over the Syrupmaids at the end of the first quarter. They then outscored their Cairo hosts 11-9 in the second quarter to take a 40-28 halftime lead. They were on top 54-37 after three quarters. They then outscored the Syrupmaids 18-9 in the fourth quarter to put the game away.
Saturday night against the Lady Bulldogs, the Lady Cats were led by Alexis Gaines with 14 points.
“We really played well Friday night in Cairo,” Lady Cats coach Kelvin Cochran said. “We handled the ball well, shot well and played strong defense. Point guard Alexis Russ, who was returning from a sprained ankle, did a good job of getting the ball up court and setting up our offense.”
“We had some really good balance in our scoring. Behind our three double figure scores we had Tianna Miller with 7, Rickia Hughes with 3 and Asia Gordon with 2.”
During the holidays the Lady Cats will be playing in the December 28 through December 30 Holiday Hoopfest at Thomasville High School. They will begin play Monday December 28 against Georgia’s Rockdale County Lady Bulldogs.
Tip off will be 1 p.m.
The tournament, which is being hosted by the Lady Bulldogs, w ill also includes the Coffee County High School Lady Trojans, the Brooks County High School Lady Trojans, the Tift County High School Lady Blue Devils, the Seminole County High School Lady Indians and the Lee County High School Lady Trojans.
