The Bainbridge High School Bearcats swept a pair of games over the weekend to begin their Region 1-AAAA season with a perfect 2-0 record.
On Friday, they traveled to Cordele and defeated the Crisp County High School Cougars 64-49 and on Saturday they defeated the Cairo High School Syrupmakers 65-25.
Leading the way for the Bearcats Friday were Tyree Crump and Miles Thomas with 11 apiece and Trevon Shaw with 9. The Bearcats took command early, jumping out to a 15-10 lead at the end of the first quarter then outscoring their hosts 21-10 in the second quarter to take a 36-20 lead. They led 55-38 after three quarters.
“Our two weekend wins were big because they were the first two games that counted in the region standings,” Bearcats head coach Rickey McCullough said following the Bearcats Saturday win over Cairo. “We were able to play a lot of people against Cairo and that is a good thing. Everybody comes to practice every day and works hard and I am happy when I am able to get our younger players some playing time minutes.”
Friday night, the Bearcats led the Cougars 15-10 at the end of the first quarter and 36-20 at halftime. They were out front by 17, 55-38, after three quarters.
The Bearcats were in control all the way Saturday night against the Syrupmakers. They led 15-2 at the end of the first quarter, 36-14 at halftime and 52-21 after three quarters.
The Bearcats returned to action Tuesday when they hosted the Seminal County High School Indians in their final non-Region game of the season. They will play consecutive Region road games over the weekend.
On Friday the Bearcats will take on the Albany High School Indians in Albany and on Saturday they will take on the Cook County High School Hornets in Adel.
