The Bainbridge High School wrestling team traveled to Tallahassee over the weekend to compete in the Florida High Invitational. Junior Ryan Adams was the top performer for the Bearcats as we went 5-0 in the tournament and won the 220-pound weight class.
Overall the team finished eighth out of thirteen teams. Adams was the only BHS wrestler to place.
“Overall [we] preformed poorly,” Head Coach Chad Smith said. “We were the youngest team there, but there were many positives. Jackson Lewis got his first win of the season, Peyton Register continues to improve into a region placer, Tanner Brown is beginning to look like his old self and Blaise Starks is looking like a region placer as well.”
Tre Storey had a strong performance at 195-pounds as he defeated Gahnon Byington, the defending GISA state champion at 195-pounds. Storey forfeited his remaining matches because he left the tournament to watch his brother Tyler Storey compete in the Florida-Georgia War of the Borders All-Star Classic in Moultrie.
The Bearcats return to the mats on Saturday when they travel to Cairo for a tournament. They will host their only home match of the season on Wednesday Jan. 27 against Leon County High School.
