In their lone home match of the season, the Bainbridge High School wrestling team defeated Leon County High School 48-14 on Wednesday. The Bearcats won five of the eight matches and received three forfeits in the victory.

“The kids were well conditioned,” Head Coach Chad Smith said. “I think we are well prepared for area.”

Tyler Storey was the first Bearcat wrestler to win a match after Leon jumped out to a 7-6 lead with victories in the 152 and 170 pound weight classes (BHS received a forfeit at 160-pounds). Teams receive six points for victories by pin or forfeit, five points for win by technical fall (leading by 15 points or more ends the match), four points for a major decision (winning by 8-14 points) and three points for a win by decision (fewer than eight points).

Leon County won the 152-match by technical fall in the second period and the 170-match in a 16-12 decision.

After Tyler pinned his opponent his brother Tre followed suit by winning the 195-pound match by pin in the second period. BHS then received a forfeit at 220-pounds and lost the 285-pound match when Jackson Lewis was pinned in the first round.

That would be the last victory for Leon as Peyton Register, Dalton Harrel and Tanner Brown each pinned their opponents to help lead BHS to victory.

“I think we are as improved as we are going to get,” Smith said.

This was the last duel match of the season for the Bearcats as the area tournament takes place Friday and Saturday, Jan. 29-30.
