McRae to be inducted into Decatur County Sports Hall of Fame

As a two time state high school class AAA tennis champion, an All-American college tennis player and a top high school basketball player and coach, soon to be Decatur County Sports Hall of Fame inductee Mallory McRae has excelled in sports his entire career.
In 1987, McRae and doubles teammate Erman Tanjuatco won the Georgia High School State Doubles Championship and in 1988 McRae won the state singles championship. His Bearcats tennis coach was Jacky Lee and his high school basketball coach was Larry Slaughter.
“Coach Lee and Coach Slaughter were both strong athletes in their own right and they always encouraged me to give a 100 percent effort every time I stepped on the court,” McRae said. “They would accept nothing less.”
At Presbyterian College, the soon to be Hall of Famer, was named NCAA Division II All-District, All-Conference and an All-American during the 1990-1991 school year. During the 1992-93 season he was named NCAA Division II All-District, All-Conference, NCAA All-American and NCAA Scholar Athlete All-American.
McRae currently serves as the head boy’s basketball coach at Grace Christian Academy in Bainbridge. He was recently GISA Region 3-AA coach of the year after leading the Cougars to their first Region championship. They advanced to the second round of the State Class AA Tournament.
Tickets for the Hall of Fame banquet, which will be Saturday, March 19 at the Bainbridge High School cafeteria, are $20.00 and may be purchased at Bainbridge High School and Parker Paints. There will be a meet and great session at 6 p.m. and the banquet will begin at 7 p.m.
