BHS track teams have strong showing in Thomasville

The Bainbridge High School Bearcats and Lady Cats track teams turned in strong efforts Saturday at the Yellow Jackets Invitational Meet at Thomas County Central High School.
Coach Larry Cosby’s Bearcats finished third in a 16 team boys’ field and Coach Tandria Phillips’ Lady Cats finished fifth in a 16team girls’ field.
Bearcats Jaylyn Scott finished first in the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 40.28 seconds and his teammate Dambrell Harris finished first in the 110 hurdles in times of 14.80. Poncherella Leonard followed up his strong showing at the Bearcat invitational with a second place finish in the 1600 and a first place finish in the 3200.
The Bearcats’ 4×400 relay team of Jeremiah Hodge, Harris, Lorenzo Mitchell and Scott finished second in a time of 3:26.35.
The Bearcats’ 4×200 relay team of Curtis Keaton, William Johnson, Zion McGee and Jordon McMullins finished third in a time of 1:33.57. McGee also finished fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 40-2 feet.
The Bearcats 4×100 relay team of Jean Jeanty, Elijah Tyler, Mitchell and T.J. Mims finished sixth with a time of 43.81.
Uriyah Davis led the way for the Lady Cats in the girls meet taking second place in both the 1600 and the 3200 in times of 6:14.21 and 13:07.22. Camry Fillingame finished fifth in the 3200 meter run with a time of 14:44.10.
Amaia Taylor was third in the 100 hurdles with a time of 17.72 and third in the 300 hurdles with a time of 50.50.
The Lady Cats’ 4×400 meter relay team of Tamia Register, Amari Smith, Makayla Cooper and Amaia Taylor finished fourth with a time of 4: 27.29 and Cyan Gant finished fifth in the high jump.
The Bearcats and Lady Cats will return to action Saturday when they travel to the Hugh Mills Memorial Stadium Track in Albany to compete in the Benson and Smith Relays.
