Four Bearcat and four Lady Cat basketball players were named to Region 1-AAAA teams by region coaches.
Senior guard Tyree Crump, who has signed with the University off Georgia Bulldogs, has been named first team All-Region 1-AAAA basketball. He averaged 22.4 points a game to lead the Bearcats.
Fellow senior starters center Trevon Shaw and forward Myles Thomas were named to the second team. Shaw averaged 10.8 points and 7.2 rebounds a game and Thomas averaged 7.2 points and four rebounds a game.
Devontae Jones, who was named honorable mention All Region 1-AAAA, averaged 11.1 points a game.
“We had a good season but we just fell a little short,” Bearcats Head Coach Rickey Mccullough said following the All Region 1-AAAA announcements. “When Trevon Shaw and Myles Thomas were blocking out and rebounding we could dominate down low and when Tyree Crump was on from three point range he could sometimes be almost unstoppable. I am looking forward to his career at the University of Georgia. I could not be prouder of our entire team.”
Lady Cat forward Nadia Marshal was named first-team all-region after averaging 15.9 points, 9.8 rebounds and 3.8 steals a game. Sophomore guard Tytianna Roseborough, who was named to the second team, averaged 8.1 points and 3.1 steals a game.
Senior forward Asia Gordon and senior guard Alexis Russ were named to the third team. Gordon averaged 6.2 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.6 steals a game and Russ averaged 6.6 points, three assists and 3.1 steals a game.
Coach Kelvin Cochran said that all four of his All-Region 1-AAAA selectees were very instrumental in his team’s success this season.
“Nadia Marshall, although just a sophomore, was our leading scorer and a player who always seemed to come up with a big play when we needed it,” Cochran said. “Our two All-Region 1-AAAA seniors, Asia Gordon and Alexis Russ, always showed a lot of leadership on the floor. When we needed a big defensive stop, they usually gave it to us. I was very proud of our entire team. To come within one game of making it to the final four is an outstanding accomplishment.”
The annual basketball awards banquet honoring the Lady Cats and Bearcats will be Thursday, April 21 at the Bainbridge High School cafeteria.
