Former Bainbridge High School Bearcats left-handed pitcher Marty Anderson will be pitching this season with the Garden City Wind of Garden City, Kansas who compete in the Pecos League. The league includes teams in Kansas, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.

A 2011 Bainbridge High School graduate, Anderson was an All-Region 1-AAAA performer under former Bainbridge High School Bearcats Head Baseball coach Scott Miller. As a senior he played in the Georgia Dugout Clubs All Star baseball game.

Anderson, who is 23 and the son of Dan and Patricia Anderson, was signed following a Garden City Winds tryout camp in Atlanta.

“My tryout for the Garden City Wind in Atlanta went well,” Anderson said. “The coaches told me they needed a left handed starter and they liked the way I kept the ball in the strike zone.”

If a player has not been drafted out of high school or college, the Pecos League is another way of getting noticed by scouts.

“I understand that Marty will be living with a host family while he is playing in Garden City,” Miller said. “That will help him get acclimated to the area and the team much faster.”

Other teams in the Pecos League include the White Sands Pupfish of Alamogordo New Mexico, the Roswell Invaders of Roswell, New Mexico, the Alpine Cowboys of Alpine, Texas, the Tucson Saguaros of Tucson, Arizona and the Santa Fe Fuego of

Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Former Bearcats head coach Scott Miller, who cached Anderson in high school, said he could not be happier for his former player.

“Marty Anderson always kept himself in shape and had a tremendous work ethic,” Miller said. “He has been working out and has become bigger and stronger. I am happy he is getting the opportunity to continue his career. As Mary continues to develop his skills there is always a chance that a major league organization will scout him and sign him to a contract.”
