Bainbridge High School Bearcats’ 6 foot 6 inch forward Myles Thomas signed a basketball scholarship Tuesday with the Tuskegee University Golden Tigers in Tuskegee Alabama.

A second team All-Region 1-AAAA selection and team captain with coach Rickey McCullough’s Bearcats in the 2015-2016 season, he averaged 7.2 points and 4 rebounds a game. He helped lead the Bearcats to the Sweet 16 round of the State Class AAAA Tournament

Coach McCullough, who retired following the season, said he thinks Tuskegee is getting a real steal in picking up Thomas.

“Myles helped us make it to the state tournament two years in a row and was really a strong rebounder and shooter those final two seasons” coach McCullough said. “He always boxed out well and got good rebounding position underneath. He and senior center Treyvon Shaw really gave us a strong presence underneath.”

Tuskegee plays in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Looking on as Thomas signed in the Bainbridge High School gymnasium hospitality room were his mother Cynthia Thomas, his father Hubert Thomas, his brothers Deon and Dillen Thomas, Bainbridge High School athletic director Stan Killough, his coach Rickey McCullough, Kelvin Cochran and Eric Williams.

Thomas’s parents said they could not be any prouder of him.

“Myles has worked very hard on the basketball court and in the classroom,” his father said. “His coaches and teachers have brought him along well. He will be playing for coach Jerry Dunn at Tuskegee, which is in the same conference as Albany State University.”

Thomas’s mother said she is confident that he will do well at Tuskegee.

“He plans to major in occupational therapy,” she said. “He is a very well rounded young man.”

Bainbridge High School principal Tommie Howell said he has known Thomas since he was a student at Jones Wheat Elementary School.

“Myles was always a dedicated student who took his academics very seriously,” Howell said. “I look forward to following his career at Tuskegee. It always makes me proud when one of our student athletes gets an opportunity to continue his career at the next level.”
