The third annual Clay Bird Classic benefiting the Friendship House, Stillwaters House of Prayer and The Refinery will be held Saturday, June 11 at Southwind Plantation.

“It’s going to be a great day to hang out in the woods and raise money for a cause that means a lot to me, but one that’s grown over the last 30 years into the most deserving cause in our area,” Rollins Miller, who is organizing the event, said.

The event will be held locally for the first time at Southwind’s new five stand clay bird range. The entrance fee includes lunch during which a live auction will be held for prizes including guided hunts, fishing trips and vacation packages.

“You shoot sporting clays, but you’re only shooting in one location you’re not making a round around a course,” Miller said. “We’re just hoping that we will have more local participation than we had in the past.”

The Friendship House and Stillwaters House of Prayer are Christian based community outreach programs. Friendship House provides summer activities for 200 kids and after-school programs during the school year. Stillwaters House is an 11-bed shelter for women and children located at the Friendship House campus.

“Another avenue to reach out to the community,” Friendship House administrative director Josh Paske said of the event. “Another avenue for people to get involved.”

Miller said that eight teams are currently registered, but they are hoping for more.
