Centennial Field was drenched with rain Friday night for Bearcat Fan Day.

 

But the fans didn’t go anywhere.

 

The Bearcats held an intersquad scrimmage for the soaked crowd, running through formations, schemes and scenarios in preparation for the home opener against Lee County in two weeks.

 

Just seven days off a scrimmage against Lowndes County (1-AAAAAAA) in Valdosta, Bainbridge came home with a laundry list of kinks to iron out. Coach Jeff Littleton believes the team has improved since then, returning to the fundamentals of the game.

 

“We had five good days of practice,” Littleton said. “We kind of got to the basis. It was more like a first week of practice as far as blocking, tackling, catching, running and throwing. We weren’t preparing for a football game, we were working on ourselves and trying to get better.”

 

The scrimmage pitted first string offenses and defenses against each other and the backups, mixing and matching players for variation. Almost every player dressed out was able to play a snap.

 

Entry into the event was free, but fans were asked by Littleton to donate a box of detergent to help with cleaning uniforms throughout the season.

 

“We’re at least on pace for last year,” Touchdown Club President Bobby Barber said about the amount of soap donated. “It’s been good. Everybody is excited.”

 

Despite the wet weather, fans remained in their seats and screamed, cheered and chanted for the team during the almost two-hour practice.

 

“We had a pretty good crowd with it pretty much raining the whole time,” Littleton said. “It was good to see them up there. I’m glad they came out.”

 

Bainbridge returns to action next week against Godby (Florida) for a scrimmage at 7 p.m. in Tallahassee. The season kicks off Friday, Aug. 26, at 7 p.m. against Lee County at Centennial Field.
