A routine stop turned into a drug bust and an arrest for illegal fishing Saturday morning. Department of Natural Resources Officer Tony Cox was patrolling during alligator season when he made contact with Robert Odom and Ryan Duke.

“They started acting a little nervous during my talking to them,” Cox said. “I asked them if they had any drugs in the boat and we ended up finding meth another form of meth, which is called ice. With prescription pills lying in the bottom of the boat also.”

During the search of the boat Cox also located a shocker device, which is illegally used to catch catfish.

“Basically the device is used and it’s hooked to a battery,” Cox said. “The battery has a metal chain that run to the bottom of the ground. It runs electricity through the water and shocks up fish as you run up and down the river.”

According to Cox, the two were commercial fishing for turtle without a license as well. Odom was arrested and charged with Possession of schedule II controlled substance-methamphetamine and shocking fish. Duke was charged with commercial fishing without a license.
