The Bainbridge seventh grade team combined a solid air attack and a stingy defense Wednesday afternoon at Centennial Field, and the Bearcats beat Thomas County Central 34-6 to advance to 2-0 this season.
Wide receiver Braxton Johnson scored two touchdowns on passes from quarterback Deyon Bouie.
Bouie began the game with a kickoff return for a touchdown, running 79 yards to the end zone. A 2-point conversion from Zio Bouie failed, but the Bearcats were up 6-0.
Bainbridge scored later in the first quarter with a touchdown pass from Deyon Bouie to Johnson, who caught the ball wide open at the Yellow Jackets’ 12-yard line and ran it in for the score. Bouie’s 2-point conversion pass was caught by tight end Preston VanHouson, and Bainbridge was leading 14-0.
The Bearcats made the score 20-0 with 3:21 left in the first quarter when Zion Bouie scored on a pick-6. TCC quarterback Ashton Norton dropped back to pass and was pressured by Bainbridge defensive end Anthony Jones, forcing a quick pass that was intercepted by Bouie. He raced to the end zone untouched. The 2-point conversion run from Latrevian Colbert failed.
Bouie and Johnson met again in the second quarter for a 70-yard touchdown. Bainbridge was faced with a 3rd and 17 from their own 30-yard line when Bouie rolled out and found Johnson wide open again at TCC’s 40-yard line. Bouie’s 2-point conversion pass was incomplete, and Bainbridge was up 26-0.
The Bearcats’ final score occurred in the third quarter when running back Anthony Jones ran 46 yards for a touchdown, topped off with a 2-point conversion run from Zion Bouie to make the score 34-0.
TCC made it on the board with 2:38 left in the game when Norton ran 25 yards for the score. Norton’s 2-point conversion pass was intercepted by Deyon Bouie.
