Carrol Ray Burke of Donalsonville, 78, passed away on September 21, 2016.
Ray was born in Bainbridge, Georgia on November 6, 1937. The son of Frank and Thelma Burke, Ray was the youngest of nine children, Euly, Larry, Myra, Mamie, Julius, Lorene, Annette, and Emory, all of whom preceded him in death. He was a long time resident of both Quincy and Tallahassee, Florida and was a law enforcement officer for 28 years. He was also a business owner with his wife of 57 years, Hazel Burke.
Ray was an active member in both the Masonic Lodge and the Marzuq Shriners where he served as potentate in 2001. He served in the United States Army and did a tour of duty in Korea in 1955-1956. He was an avid fisherman, and during his retirement he and Hazel divided their time between South Georgia, and Maggie Valley and Waynesville, North Carolina.
Ray Is survived by his wife Hazel Burke; son, Ramon D. Burke; daughter in law, Tonya Burke; granddaughters, Brittany and Brooke McElroy; great grandson, Finn Oliver Prince; and numerous nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 25, 2016, at Reynolds Chapel UMC, 2676 Burke Road, Donalsonville, GA 39845. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Reynolds Chapel UMC or Marzuq Shrine Center and Shriners Hospitals.
